WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team continued going strong on day two of the Baylor Intercollegiate Fall Invitational at the Baylor Tennis Center on Saturday advancing two players into the singles semifinals.
Sophomores Carolin Walter and Klara Zrustova picked up wins in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals to move into the semifinals. Zrustova advanced into the semifinals when Tulsa's third seeded Daniela Muscolino withdrew due to injury. Walter fought through back-to-back 3-set matches defeating Georgia Tech opponents Alison Silverio 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 and Kelly Anderson 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Walter then teamed up with doubles partner Daniela Covello to take on Texas' Ristine Olson and Courtney Zauft in the quarterfinals losing in an 8-6 match. Zemenova will face Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller in the semifinals on Sunday morning while Walter will take on Helena Besovic of TCU.
The finals of doubles, set to be played on Sunday after the completion of singles semifinals and finals, will pit TCU's Besovic/Karla Mancinas against Kacie Anson and Dasha Potapova of Georgia Tech.
Baylor freshman Zuzana Zemenova was eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing to Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller 1-6, 6-0, 6-0.
In back draw singles action, Baylor's Covello upset Georgia Tech's No. 46 ranked Lyndsay Shosho 6-2, 6-2.
Play will continue tomorrow with singles semifinals beginning at 8 a.m.
