COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Baylor sophomore Josefin Svenningsson (Gislaved, Sweden) was named to the 2004 Big 12 Women's Golf All-Conference Second Team, as voted on by the league's coaches and announced by the league office at the Big 12 Championship Banquet Friday night.
Svenningsson leads the Bears and ranks eighth in the Big 12 with a 75.40 stroke average, the second-lowest in Baylor history behind Melanie Hagewood's 74.83 last year.
Svenningsson posted her first career victory and led the Bears to the team title at the adidas Fall Invitational in October to earn Big 12 Golfer of the Month honors. She also shattered the school's 54-hole total record with a 210 at the event, four strokes better than Nicole Johnson's 214 in 2001. Svenningsson also recorded a pair of 69s, once to open the year at the Ptarmigan/Ram Classic and again at the adidas Fall Invitational, to tie the school record low round.
Kansas State's Christine Boucher was named Player of the Year, Oklahoma State's Ashley Knoll was named Newcomer of the Year and Missouri's Stephanie Cooper was named Coach of the Year.
The Bears are currently in action at the 2004 Big 12 Championship and are looking forward to their fourth straight NCAA Regional appearance.
