WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team posted a decisive victory over the visiting Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday afternoon at the Baylor Tennis Center. The Bears, currently ranked No. 2 nationally, defeated Huskers 7-0 improving their overall record to 18-2 and Big 12 record to 3-0.
Due to possible inclement weather, the match was moved forward three hours from 6 to 3 p.m.
In doubles competition the Bears got to work early winning at all three positions to win the doubles point.
In singles play the Bears kept the heat on winning at all six positions. The first to finish, at the No. 3 spot, Baylor's #85-ranked Matias Marin quickly defeated Jose Rivera 6-1, 6-0 followed closely by a victory from#67 Matija Zgaga at the No. 4 position defeating Joel Reckewey 6-0, 6-2. Zgaga is now on a five game winning streak. At the No. 5 position Reiner Neurohr had no problem defeating Jeff Nabity 6-0, 6-1. Next to finish was #13 Benjamin Becker who was able to extend his winning streak to 9 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory of Joerg Barthel. #2 Benedikt Dorsch took some time getting started but defeated Gerhard Posch 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Completing the sweep for the Bears was Jon Reckewey who defeated James Clow 6-4, 6-4. Jon's brother, Joel Reckewey, played at the No. 4 position for Nebraska.
The Bears next match will be against the No. 25 Texas A&M Aggies in College Station tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
