WACO, Texas - Baylor's two seniors, Matias Marin and Reiner Neurohr, were honored at tonight's men's tennis match against SMU at the Baylor Tennis Center and each posted singles and doubles wins in the Bears' 5-2 win over the Mustangs.
Baylor, ranked No. 2 nationally, beat the 31st-ranked Mustangs for the second time this season, they also claimed a 5-2 win in Dallas on March 10. The Bears swept the doubles point with all three tandems posting victories. Benjamin Becker and Marin, ranked No. 25, moved up to the No. 1 spot for the second time this season and posted an 8-4 win over 28th-ranked Johan Brunstrom and Henrik Soderberg. Dorsch and Neurohr, playing together for the fourth time this season, beat Gwinyai Chingoka and Paul McNaughton, 8-5. At No. 3, Jason Gould and Matija Zgaga closed out the doubles sweep with a tiebreaker win over Peter Oredsson and Federico Murgier.
All six singles matches were completed in two sets. Third-ranked Dorsch, playing at No. 2, made quick work of Chingoka, taking less than an hour to post a 6-2, 6-4 win. Next off the court was Neurohr and then Zgaga, playing at No. 4, clinched the match for Baylor with a win over Lukasz Senczyszyn, 6-4, 6-3. SMU's two wins on the night came at both ends of the lineup. Brunstrom, playing at No. 1 and ranked No. 61, cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over 10th-ranked Becker, halting Becker's win streak at 12. Baylor's Jon Reckewey, playing in his fourth dual match of the season, lost to SMU's Alex Skrypko. The victory raises Baylor's season record to 23-2 and extends its winning streak to 15 matches while SMU falls to 14-9.
