Men's Tennis One Step Closer to Three-peat

NORMAN, Okla. - Baylor's men's tennis team advanced to the championships match of the Big 12 Tournament with a 4-0 blanking of Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. Baylor will face Texas A&M, 4-0 winners over Texas Tech, in the championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
If Baylor prevails over Texas A&M on Sunday, the Bears will become the first men's team to win both the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles three times.
The Bears, ranked second nationally, raised their season record to 25-2 while 30th-ranked Oklahoma State is now 17-7 on the season.
In doubles it took 25th-ranked Benjamin Becker and Matias Marin just 35 minutes to close out their match with an 8-3 win at No. 2. Only 10 minutes later, Benedikt Dorsch and Matija Zgaga posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 to give the Bears the doubles point.
Becker was first off the court for the Bears in singles. The junior, ranked No. 15, trailed 3-0 to begin the match but then reeled off wins in 12 straight games to claim a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2. At No. 5, Reiner Neurohr was almost as fast, defeating his Cowboy opponent, 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Matija Zgaga closed out the match for the Bears with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4.
