Junior Ryan Baca shot a final-round 67 to claim individual medalist honors and lead the Baylor men's golf team to a second-place finish at the UTSA Roadrunner Intercollegiate Tuesday at the 6,691-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club.
Baca notched his third career victory by finishing with a 54-hole total of 209 (72-70-67) to finish 4-under par and two strokes ahead of San Diego State's Mark Warman (67-73-71=211).
Freshman Jeremy Alcorn (71-74-71=216) continued the success of his impressive freshman season by finishing in a tie for seventh, while another freshman having a great start to his career is Jeremy Frye (73-76-73=222). Frye fired an even-par 71 in the final round to finish in a tie for 22nd. Senior Jon Antunes (75-74-74=223) played steady throughout the tournament and finished in a tie for 26th, while senior Will Doughtie (78-76-76=230) concluded the tournament in a tie for 52nd.
Kansas (856) claimed the team title over Baylor (291-294-285=870) by 14 strokes. Host UTSA (875) finished third, while Wichita State (877) and Rice (886) rounded the Top 5. This is Baylor's sixth straight Top-10 finish under first-year head coach Greg Priest.
The Bears return to action March 7-9 when they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to play in the Hyatt Dorado Beach Intercollegiate.
