WACO, Texas - Baylor freshman Zuzana Zemenova will be competing in the WTA Challenge Bell Tournament which runs from Oct. 30 to Nov. 7, in Quebec City, Canada. Zemenova qualified for the event by winning the WTA's Ballantrae Challenger in Birmingham, Ala., in mid-October. En route to the tournament championship in Alabama, Zemenova defeated several players with much higher world rankings.
The talented freshman from Kosice, Slovakia, is one of only 62 singles WTA players to qualify for the tournament. Thirty-two individuals will compete in the qualifying round which begins on Saturday, while 30 players are in the main draw. In 2003, second-ranked Maria Sharapova of Russia won the singles championship.
