BATON ROUGE, La. - The Baylor men's golf team completed day one at the University Club Intercollegiate Monday with a score of 570 and sit in 11th place. The Bears carded consecutive rounds of 285 through the first two rounds at the 7,205-yard par 72 University Club G.C.
Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) is currently tied for third after finishing the first two rounds at 8-under-par 136, firing 68's in both rounds. Alcorn is looking to capture his first individual victory of his brief career and currently sits only one shot off of the lead.
Sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) roared back after opening the tournament with a 74, to fire a 3-under par 69 in the second round and is tied for 32nd while sophomore Dusty Isabell (Athens, Texas) is tied for 56th at 147. Sophomore Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) is also tied for 56th at 147 (72-75) while Sophomore Matt Briggs (San Antonio, Texas) came back to shoot a 73 in the second round to stand in a tie for 71st (79-73).
SMU is the leader after day one of competition by shooting a 27-under-par 549 (275-274), to hold a five shot lead over second place Auburn. Will Dodson (68-67) of SMU is tied with Chris Wells (69-66) of host LSU for the individual lead at 135.
The tournament concludes with the third and final round Tuesday.
