Men's Tennis Proceeds to ITA Final Rounds

AUSTIN, Texas - After a Saturday cut short due to darkness, men's tennis continued its winning ways at the ITA Central Regional at the University of Austin on Sunday.

Both singles finalists and doubles champions will earn a spot at the ITA National Indoor next weekend at the University of Michigan.

Baylor's Lars Poerschke advanced in both singles and doubles action after remaining unbeaten through Sunday play. Poerschke defeated Tony Hearle of Rice 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in the round of 16. Then in the quarterfinal round, Poerschke proved victorious again defeating Evghenii Corduneau of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-3, 6-2 earning a spot in the semifinal match.

In doubles play, Poerschke along with teammate Matija Zgaga defeated Jordan Freitas and Jacobo Tezza of TCU 8-6. The Baylor duo then defeated conference foes Mohamed Dakki and Jerry Makowski from Texas A&M 8-4 in the quarterfinal round.

Barry McLaren defeated Xavier Godoy of Prairie View 6-1, 6-2 in his fourth-round match in the consolation bracket. However, Adrian Prpic of Texas Tech defeated McLaren 6-3 Ret.(inj) to end his weekend.

Zgaga had his singles tournament cut short when Roger Gubser of Texas knocked-off Zgaga 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the round of 16.

Action continues Monday as Poerschke and Zgaga hope to clinch a spots at the ITA National Indoor next weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich.
