Men's Tennis Advances to Sunday Play

AUSTIN, Texas - In the second day of tournament action, men's tennis proved victorious at the ITA Central Regional held at the University of Texas Saturday.

In the round of 32, third-seeded Matija Zgaga defeated Brett Joelson of Texas A&M 6-7, 6-0, 6-4. Lars Poerschke will advance to Sunday as well after upsetting fifth-seeded Fabrizio Sestini of TCU 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

Michal Kokta had his tournament hopes cut short after losing to conference foe Esat Tanik of Texas Tech 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In the consolation bracket, Barry McLaren stayed alive by defeating Oscar Roman of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 in a well-fought match.

In the doubles bracket, Poerschke and Zgaga defeated Jason Mock and Take Morita of Rice 9-8.

The Bears continue action Sunday in hopes to make it to the championship matches.
