Women's Tennis Gains 3 Players

WACO - Baylor women's tennis coach Joey Scrivano will welcome three new faces to the team next season. Joining the Bears in the fall will be Iva Mihaylova (Bulgaria), Carolin Walter (Germany) and Klara Zrustova (Czech Republic). All three student-athletes signed letters of intent recently and will be freshmen for the Bears next fall.
Mihaylova, a Bulgaria native, comes to the Baylor program ranked in the top 5 in Bulgaria women's open division. A 2003 graduate of Kuzman Shapkarev High School in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, she was also ranked No. 1 in Bulgaria in under 18s. She selected Baylor over Minnesota.
Walter comes to Baylor after completing studies at Hildegardis Gymnasium in Heilbronn, Germany. She ranks No. 80 in German women's rankings and attained an ITF World Junior ranking of No. 395 in 2000. The Germany native chose Baylor over Tulane.
Zrustova hails from Ostrov nad Ohri in the Czech Republic and holds a No. 66 national ranking. She has enjoyed a successful career in junior events as well. Zrustova has ranked as high as No. 26 in Under 18 and was Under 14 champion of the Czech Republic in doubles (2002) and played on the Czech Junior National team in 2000. Zrustova has ranked as high as No. 336 in ITF World Junior rankings in singles and No. 126 in doubles. The Czech native selected Baylor over Missouri, Illinois, Auburn and Wisconsin.
"We are thrilled that these three quality student-athletes will be wearing green and gold next season. I feel that they will bring a high level of intensity to our program and help us get to the next level," said Scrivano.
Scrivano, who recently completed his first season at the helm of the Baylor program, guided the team to its first-ever Big 12 Conference title in 2003. The Bears, finished the 2003 season ranked No. 37 nationally, they completed Big 12 play with a program-best 9-2 record.
