WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team posted a decisive victory over the visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Thursday night at the Baylor Tennis Center. The Bears, currently ranked No. 7 nationally, blanked the 58th-ranked Islanders 7-0.

Even though none of the three Baylor doubles teams had ever been paired together before, all three tandems posted wins. Playing at No.2, BU's Benedikt Dorsch and Ivor Lovrak zipped through Christophe Bergues and Oscar Roman, 8-2. It took the Bears' two other duos a little longer to triumph; Zoltan Papp and Mike Garcia won 8-4 at No. 1 and Reiner Neurohr and Jason Gould posted an 8-6 win at the No. 3 spot.

Baylor's two seniors, Mike Garcia and Zoltan Papp, were honored between singles and doubles. Judging from the length of their matches, they wanted to savor their final regular season home match. In Baylor's six singles victories, they were the only two matches to go to three sets. Papp, playing at No. 2, dropped the first set to Goncalo Figueiredo 4-6 but rebounded to whip through the next two sets and claim victory 6-2, 6-1. Garcia took a little longer to win his three setter. He won the first set 6-2 but faltered in the second, losing 5-7, before claiming a 6-3 third set win. Benjamin Becker, Matias Marin, Ivor Lovrak and Barry McLaren also posted wins for the Bears. Lovrak's victory was his 17th straight win and he is now 17-0 in dual match action. Papp extended his singles win streak to 12 and Marin pushed his consecutive win streak to 11.

With the victory, Baylor raised their season record to 22-1 while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi falls to 13-8.

The Bears next action will be the Big 12 Tournament. Baylor, the league's No. 1 seed, will play on Friday, April 26 at 9:00 a.m. against the No. 8 seed. The Big 12 Tournament, both men's and women's, will be held at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.
