LAFAYETTE, La. - Sophomore Ryan Baca shot two rounds of 2-under par 70 to open play at the Louisiana Classics in third place with a total score of 140. Tulsa's David Inglis fired a second-round 67 to lead the field with a two-round total of 7-under 137.
Baylor opened the tournament with a 297 but managed to shave five strokes off the team total by the second round to finish the day with a score of 589. The Bears are tied with the host Louisiana-Lafayette Rajin Cajuns in ninth place. At 8-under for the day, SMU leads the field with a two-round 568 at the 7,002-yard, par 72 Oakbourne Country Club course. Tulsa (572; -4) and Texas A&M (574; -2) also managed to break par through the first two rounds.
Freshman Will McDonald had a stellar opening round, carding an even-par 72. He followed that up with a 75 to finish the day tied for 28th with a total score of 147. Junior Will Doughtie is tied for 42nd (77-73=150) while senior Trevar Matheson is tied for 65th (79-74=153) and junior Jon Antunes is tied for 74th (78-78=156).
Baca and the Bears look to gain ground on the rest of the 15-team field when they play in the final round of the Louisiana Classics on Tuesday.
