WACO, Texas - Baylor freshman Matija Zgaga won the singles crown at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational but was denied a sweep when he and doubles partner Jason Gould lost in the championship finals.

Zgaga, a 5-11 lefthander from Maribor, Slovenia, swept through the tournament, winning all five of his matches in two sets. His closest match of the tournament came in the finals when Krzysztof Kwinta of UCLA pushed him to 7-5 in the first set. Zgaga claimed the title by winning the second set 6-3.

After winning their first three doubles matches to reach the finals, Zgaga and Gould, a sophomore from New Braunfels, Texas, lost in the championship match to UCLA's Kwinta and Alberto Francis, 8-5.

The men's team will now participate in the ITA South Central Regionals, Friday - Monday, Oct. 24-27, in Fort Worth.
