Men's Tennis Players in Finals in Midland

WACO, Texas - Baylor freshman Matija Zgaga has advanced to the finals of the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in both singles and doubles. He is paired with sophomore Jason Gould in doubles. Zgaga has won four straight matches to advance to the finals in singles and the Baylor duo has won three to reach the finals.

Zgaga, a 5-11 lefthander from Maribor, Slovenia, has posted victories over Pepperdine's Kevin Borzenski (6-2, 6-0), Oklahoma's Silviu Tanasoiu (6-3, 6-4), Arizona's Colin O'Grady (6-1, 6-1) and Jonathan Stokke (6-1, 6-4) of Duke. He will face Krzysztof Kwinta of UCLA in the finals.

Jason Gould, a 6-2 sophomore from New Braunfels, Texas, won his first match of the tournament against Ryan Heinberg of Duke, 7-6(2), 6-2, before dropping his second match, a 3-setter, to Arizona's Tom Lloyd 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. In Saturday's action, Gould won his first match in the back draw, defeating Erhan Vaughan of Boise State, 6-4, 6-4. He bowed out of the tournament with a loss to Texas Tech's Demetrio Mertinez, 6-4, 6-1.

Zgaga and Gould won their first doubles match with a victory over Lloyd and O'Grady of Arizona (8-4). In today's quarterfinal action, they defeated Khalid El Dorry and Zack Malmgren of Texas A&M, 8-4. The tandem then on the post a semifinal win over Fabrizio Sestini and Rafael Abreu of TCU, 8-6. They will take on UCLA's Krzysztof Kwinta and Alberto Francis in the finals on Sunday.
