Women's Golf Tied for First in Season Opener

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Baylor's women's golf team opened up its season Monday at the Ram/Ptarmigan Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado. With opening rounds of 293 and 291, the Bears are tied with Colorado State for the lead. Both teams finished the day at 8-over par at the 6,036-yard, 72-par Ptarmigan Country Club. Nebraska shot a 589 to finish the day in third, followed by Nevada (595) and Denver (600) in the 17-team tournament.

After opening the tournament with a one under par 71, senior Melanie Hagewood posted an even-par 72 in the final round of the day to finish in a tie for fourth over. Hagewood is even with Mayumi Motoyama of Colorado State at 1-under. They trail Colorado State's Lynette Duran and Sarah Sasse of Nebraska, who each recorded two-round totals of 6-under 138. Washington State's Kim Welch is in third with a 139.

Junior Kelli McKandless (72-74) is tied for eighth at 2-over par 146. Senior Hanna-Sofia Svenningson (74-75) and junior Michaelyn Morgan (76-73) are tied in 17th place at 5-over par 149. Newcomer Erin Bradford shot a 79 in her Baylor debut. She came back with an even-par 72 in the second round to close out the tied for 22nd with a 151.

The Bears will try to improve on their stellar first-day performance during the third and final round on Tuesday.
