Both Tennis Teams Move Up in Rankings

WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team moved up four spots this week to No. 32 in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, while the men's team made their biggest jump of the season nine spots to No. 7. This is the men's highest ranking this season.

The women, currently 15-5 on the season and 6-2 in Big 12 play, had dropped nine spots last week but moved up four this week. They won two out of three matches over the last week with their wins over Lamar and No. 39 Kansas State on the road in Manhattan and their only loss coming to No. 42 Kansas in Lawrence.

In the women's individual rankings Katja Kovac moved up ten spots to No. 49, and Vida Mulec fell two spots to No. 68. In doubles the team of Kovac and Mulec moved up 17 spots to No. 31.

The men's team, who are currently 17-1 and 3-0 in Big 12 play, won all of their games this week after having a great week last week that included a win over No. 4 Kentucky. This week the Bears defeated No. 43 SMU 7-0 and beat No. 16 Duke in Raleigh/Durham 5-2.

In the men's individual rankings Benjamin Becker moved up to No. 6, Zoltan Papp fell to No. 45, and Markus Hornung made the biggest jump from No. 74 to No. 56. In doubles action the team of Hornung and Nathan McGregor moved up to No. 10, while Hornung and Reiner Neurohr fell to No. 31, and Becker/Hornung fell 11 spots to No. 42.

The men's team is set to host two matches next week at the Baylor Tennis Center. First up is Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6 p.m on Monday, April 8 and No. 9 Texas on Wednesday, April 10 at 6p.m.

The women host Marquette on Sat., April 6 at 11 a.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
