Women's Tennis Hosts Two Matches

WACO, Texas - #32 Baylor (14-5, 5-2) Hosts Two Matches

After a three-match road trip, Dave Luedtke's Bears return home for two contests. The Bears went 3-1 last week with victories over Lamar, Kansas State and Missouri and a loss to Kansas. Baylor is now 14-5 overall and 5-2 in Big 12 action.

Oklahoma, ranked No. 45, comes to the Baylor Tennis Center with an 11-5 overall record and are 1-4 in Big 12 action. The Sooners currently sit in 10th place in league standings. Head coach Mark Johnson is in his 14th years as Oklahoma's head coach. Sophomore newcomer Anda Perianu leads the Sooners with a 15-5 record at No. 1 and No. 2 singles The duo of Perianu and junior newcomer Elena Jirnova are 10-2 in doubles action on the season.

Marquette is currently 4-12 on the season after posting a 4-3 victory over South Florida on Saturday. Head coach Jody Bronson's squad is 1-10 on the road this season.

Baylor in the Rankings...
The latest Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, released Wed., April 3, saw the Baylor women's team move up to No. 32 from No. 36. The Bears are currently 14-5 on the season after winning three matches and losing one match last week.

In the ITA Top 100 individual rankings also released on Mar. 20, two Lady Bears stayed in the rankings. Senior Katja Kovac dropped from No. 47 to No. 59, while junior Vida Mulec moved up from No. 71 to No. 66. In doubles, the team of Kovac/Mulec were listed at the No. 49 spot.

Head Coach Dave Luedtke...
Baylor Head Coach Dave Luedtke is in his 15th season at the helm of the women's program. He has a career record of 209-133 at Baylor. Last season he guided the Bears to a third place Big 12 finish and to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. His teams have made six consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Current Streaks...
Freshman Daria Potapova has the longest winning streak going in spring competition at four matches. Junior VIda Mulec had a four-match winning streak snapped at Missouri.

Injury Report...
Junior Vida Mulec is playing with a broken left wrist. She suffered a fall in practice week (3/21) and x-rays the next day showed the wrist was broken. Despite the injury, the two-fisted backhander, posted a victory over Texas' Joanne Masongsong (6-1, 3-6, 7-5) on Saturday. She will be in a cast for approximately six weeks.

Moving Up the Charts...
Senior Katja Kovac improves the school record for career singles wins each time she wins a match. Currently Kovac is at 134 career wins. Frida Borjesson and Vida Mulec have also moved into the top 10 in career wins. Kovac moved into No. 1 in career doubles victories with two wins last week, putting her at 78. She surpassed Sophie Goldschmidt's 77 career doubles wins. In addition, Vida Mulec passed Goldschmidt in career singles wins with 80.

Most Successful Doubles Spot...
Baylor's most successful doubles spot in dual match competition has been the No. 2 spot. After droppingthe first five matches of the season at No. 2 doubles, The Bears have won 13 of the next 14 matches, including the last seven straight.
