Men's Golfers Head To Big 12 Championship

WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's golf team will conclude its regular season by traveling to the Big 12 Championship on Monday and Tuesday, April 29 and 30, at Prairie Dunes Golf & Country Club in Hutchison, Kan.

Baylor, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech will all compete for the 2002 title.

Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas are all top-50 ranked teams, according to Golfstat.com.

The format of the Invitational consists of 54 holes beginning with two 18-hole rounds Monday beginning at 7:30 a.m., and a final round Tuesday.

Prairie Dunes is a 6,596-yard, par 70 golf course.

The Bears won the conference championship by 10 strokes last year. Then-senior Worth Williams led the Bears by shooting five-over par and won the individual medal.

Traveling for the Bears will be Freshmen Derek Abel and Ryan Baca, sophomores Will Doughtie and Adam Meyer and junior Jamie McLeary. Currently Meyer, Baca and McLeary are among the top-10 in the conference's stroke average. Meyer ranks third, while Baca and McLeary rank eighth and ninth, respectively.

In Baylor's last outing of the fall, the Bears won the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. Junior Jamie McLeary who won the individual medal led the team.
