Men's Tennis Achieves Highest Ranking of Season

WACO, Texas - In the latest Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings, the Baylor Bears rank No. 6, their highest team ranking of the season.

The Bears, 22-1 on the year, earned the program's second Big 12 Championship when they defeated Texas A&M in College Station, 4-3 on Saturday. The victory gave the Bears sole possession of the conference crown.

Prior to this week's No. 6 ranking the Bears' highest national rank was No. 8 which they achieved four straight weeks (Feb. 13 through March 6). Rankings will come out twice more this season, May 5 and then a final season ranking will appear on May 31. Baylor's highest final season ranking is No. 7 at the end of the 2000 campaign.

In the ITA Top 100 individual rankings released on April 24, three Bears received rankings. Freshman Benjamin Becker moved up a spot to No. 7, junior Zoltan Papp moved from No. 42 to No. 40 and newcomer Markus Hornung jumped 10 spots to No. 68. In doubles, three teams made the top 60 rankings. Hornung and Nathan McGregor dropped from No. 22 to No. 27, Hornung/Neurohr are No. 40 and McGregor/Papp are No. 52.
