WACO, Texas - Baylor sophomore ace Markus Hornung of Ludwigshafen, Germany, has been chosen as final Big Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Apr. 15-21, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Hornung scored the decisive singles point to help the Bears finish the 2002 campaign undefeated in conference dual match play with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Texas A&M's Lester Cook and a 4-3 team win. That triumph also propelled Baylor to the Big 12 men's championship with a 7-0 league record. Hornung closed the regular season with a 31-9 record in singles and teamed with Nathan McGregor for a 11-3 record in No. 1 doubles.
Hornung is the third Baylor player to be named Big 12 Player of the Week. All told, Baylor players were named player of the week four of the eight times selections were made.
