WACO, Texas - It's official: Baylor's bats have come alive.

The 17th-ranked Bears, in the midst of a six-game breather from conference play, are taking full advantage of the opportunity to make up ground lost earlier in the season. Wednesday, Baylor won its third straight game, beating UT-San Antonio 13-1 at Baylor Ballpark.

For the second straight day and the third time in four games, the Bears (24-12) pounded out a double-digit run total. The 13 runs scored against the Roadrunners (18-14) made for the third-highest scoring game of the year for Baylor, behind only an 18-9 win at Southern California and a 17-6 win over Winthrop.

Freshman Trey Taylor (1-3) made the start for Baylor and earned his first collegiate win, throwing five innings and striking out a season/career-best eight batters. Taylor allowed just two hits and one run.

Sean Walker (two innings), Cody Hall (one inning) and Kyle Edens (one inning) closed out the game without allowing a run.

Seven of the nine starting position players for Baylor drove in at least one run Wednesday night, led by Mike Huggins, who plated three runs with a single and a triple.

Huggins pushed his hitting streak to 11 straight games, while Michael Griffin's two hits extended his streak to 13 straight, best on the team this season. Griffin also drove in one more run to push his team-leading total to 41, second-best in the Big 12 Conference.

Other top hitters on the night included David Murphy, who pounded out a career-high four hits (including a triple), scored twice and drove in two runs, and Chris Durbin, who had three hits (including a double) and two runs scored.

The Bears jumped on top early with a single run in the first inning. After UTSA breezed through the second and third frames, Baylor scored two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to knock out starter Brian Eck (2-2). A five spot in the sixth inning broke the game wide open, and the Bears added two more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth for good measure.

The win was Baylor's 15th straight against UTSA. The Roadrunners won the first two games between the two teams back in 1994, since then, Baylor has outscored UTSA by a combined 189-71 in those 15 wins. Earlier this season, the Bears pounded the Roadrunners 12-1 in UTSA's season opener.

Baylor will look to continue its heavy-slugging ways this weekend as the team wraps up an eight-game homestand. The Bears host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
