WACO, Texas - The 8th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team has won nine straight matches and remains undefeated on the season after posting a road victory over #48 Fresno State, 6-1.
The Bears (9-0) won doubles and took five singles matches to defeat the Bulldogs. Fresno State gained their lone point at No. 6 singles when Greg Shearer defeated Armando Carrascosa in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The Bears swept the doubles point, winning all three matches. Head coach Matt Knoll mixed the doubles teams up somewhat and obtained good results. Benjamin Becker and Markus Hornung were paired together for the first time in dual match competition and posted an 8-5 victory. Zoltan Papp and Nathan McGregor won their third doubles match of the spring season 8-6. Reiner Neurohr and Matias Marin, playing together for the first time this season, won 9-8 (4).
Baylor's Benjamin Becker, Markus Hornung, Reiner Neurohr, Matias Marin and Nathan McGregor all posted singles victories. Hornung was Baylor's only singles winner to take the match to three sets. With the wins today, the Bears remain undefeated on the season at No. 3 and No. 5 singles and have lost only one match at No. 2 singles.
The Bears' next action comes Friday, March 8th when they travel to Malibu, Calif. to take on No. 9 Pepperdine. The match is set for noon (CST).
