Tennis Teams Drop In Rankings

WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team slipped from No. 10 to No. 16, while the women's team dropped nine spots to No. 27 in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

The men fell six spots after posting three wins over No. 32 TCU, Lamar, and Wichita State. The men, 13-1 overall, still remain undefeated at home (10-0) and in the Big 12 (2-0), their only loss of the season came at then-No. 9 Pepperdine.

The women, currently 11-3 on the season, also dropped in the rankings after losing to South Alabama and posting two wins last week over No. 38 Oklahoma State and No. 66 Colorado. They remain undefeated in Big 12 play at 3-0.

Freshman Benjamin Becker remains Baylor's highest ranked player at No. 7. Junior Zoltan Papp, riding a 10-match winning streak, checks in at No. 38 and sophomore Markus Hornung is ranked No. 74. Sophomore Reiner Neurohr appeared on the list at No. 120. In doubles, Hornung and Neurohr are No. 19 and Becker and Hornung are No. 31.

Senior Katja Kovac continues to be the women's top-ranked singles player at No. 59m, while junior Vida Mulec is not far behind at No. 66. The pair teams up in doubles to rank No. 49

The men's team will host three matches this week at the Baylor Tennis Center. They take on No. 4 Kentucky on Friday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m. The next match will be the Bears' third Big 12 match-up against in-state rival when they host No. 67 Texas Tech on Sun., March 24 at 1 p.m. The Bears will have another key regional match-up against No. 41 SMU on Wed., March 27 at 6 p.m., and then finish out the week with a trip to No. 21 Duke on Sat., March 30 at 6 p.m.

The women travel to Austin to take on No. 16 Texas on Sat., March 23 at 2 p.m. Both teams are undefeated in Big 12 matches this season. On Fri., March 29, the women travel to No. 40 Kansas State for their fourth straight Big 12 match in two weeks.
