Box Score

HOUSTON, Texas - Houston's Chris Snyder sent a Paul Thorp fastball into Enron Field's Crawford Boxes in the bottom of the ninth, driving in the winning run on a solo home run as the Cougars beat Baylor 3-2 Saturday in the Bears' second game of the Astros College Classic, played at Enron Field.

For Baylor (0-2), it was their second one-run loss in as many days and their first loss to Houston in five meetings. The Bears lost despite a strong start from ace Steven White, who threw six and two-thirds innings and allowed just one earned run. The junior walked none and struck out five.

Houston (1-0), meanwhile, scored one run in each of the first two innings off White but was held scoreless through the middle innings as White settled down.

Baylor finally got on the board in the sixth when a two-out error by Houston first baseman Thanos Papavasiliou kept the inning alive. Sophomore Jared Clements followed that with a pinch-hit RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

The Bears were unable to get to the Houston bullpen after that, getting just two hits in the final three innings.

Snyder's walk-off home run in the ninth came on a 1-0 count off Thorp (0-1) with one out in the bottom of the ninth, the drive was a line shot that barely cleared the 20-foot-high left field wall. The homer gave the win to Houston's Jesse Crain (1-0), the fourth of four Cougar pitchers on the day. Crain had relieved with two outs in the top of the ninth and struck out Trey Webb, stranding Clements on third base.

The Bears will play their final game of the Astros College Classic Saturday at 9 a.m. when they take on TCU.
