WACO, Texas - The eighth ranked Baylor men's tennis team, won its eighth straight match on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Baylor Tennis Center, as the Bears defeated Nebraska 6-1.
Baylor (8-0, 1-0) won its fourth straight doubles point of the season lead by Markus Hornung/Nathan McGregor who defeated Jacek Wolicki/Joel Reckewey 8-6. Zoltan Papp/Reiner Neurohr also came up big with an 8-3 win over Lance Mills/Jose Rivera, as well as the doubles pair of Mike Garcia/ Benjamin Becker having no problems defeating Fungai Tongoona/ Jose Hernan by a score of 8-3.
In singles competition, McGregor came out strong claiming the first singles win by defeating Jeff Nabity 6-3, 6-3, and Armando Carrascosa won his third straight match by defeating Joel Reckewey 6-3, 6-3. No. 41 Papp and No. 27 Hornung continued their dominance moving their current record to 7-0. Papp beat Hernan in two sets 6-3, 6-3, while Hornung struggled after the first set and came back to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 over Wolicki. In the last match of the day, No. 8 Becker fought back from a tough first set to defeat Mills by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The only loss the Bears suffered was from No. 70 Matias Marin. Marin after remaining undefeated in play so far lost a rough match 6-7 (8-6), 4-6 to Tongoona.
The Bears next conference match will be against Colorado on March 19 in Waco. Baylor will face No. 68 Boise State in their next match, Friday, March 1 at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
