Baylor Tennis Players Earn Preseason Honors

WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's and women's tennis squads each placed one player on the Preseason Coaches All-Big 12 Conference teams it was announced yesterday.

Freshman Benjamin Becker and senior Katja Kovac each received preseason all-Big 12 honors in a vote of league coaches. Becker, a native of Orscholz, Germany, is currently ranked No. 3 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Kovac, from Ljubljana, Slovenia, is currently ranked No. 29 by the ITA.

Joining Becker on the team are Texas A&M's Keith From and Ryan Newport, Oklahoma State's Matt Prentice and Texas' Jean Simon and Rodrigo Echagaray.

In addition to Kovac, five other women were honored by the coaches: Kansas State's Alena Jecminkova and Petra Sedlmajerova, Texas' Joanne Masongsong, Texas A&M's Jessica Roland and Texas Tech's Irina Tereschenko.

No Baylor doubles teams were named to the preseason squads.
