WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team had a great showing during the first cycle of the qualifying round at the Icy Hot/ITA Tournament. Benedikt Dorsch, Ivor Lovrak and Matias Marin all advance to the next round of play along with the doubles team of Benjamin Becker and Benedikt Dorsch.
Ivor Lovrak defeated Valentino Pest of San Diego State by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 and will face Manuel Kost of Oregon Wednesday morning at 9. Benedikt Dorsch also moves to the next round after sweeping past Ryler DeHeart of Illinois 6-4, 6-4. He will play against Marcus Bernston of Boise State tomorrow at 9 a.m. Newcomer to the tournament, No. 80 Matias Marin overpowered Washington's Ari Strasberg 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to advance and will be pit against Catalin Gard of Mississippi at 10:30 Wednesday morning.
The duo of Benjamin Becker and Benedikt Dorsch conquered New Mexico's David Kosowski and Bart Scott by a score of 8-4. Reiner Neurohr and Zoltan Papp dropped their doubles match to Brandon Gill and Kevin Gill of Butler, 8-6. Becker and Dorsch will face Ryan Hammond and Alastair Jenkin of Texas tomorrow at 1 p.m.
