WACO, Texas - Three Baylor men's tennis players are competing in the UTA Fall Invitational hosted by the University at Texas at Arlington and two of them, Mike Garcia and Jason Gould, each won a match on day two of the tournament. Play concludes on Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.
Joining Baylor in the tournament are Texas-Arlington (UTA), Abilene Christian (ACU), Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR), Baylor (BU), Centenary (CC), Lamar (LU), Tyler Junior College (TJC) and Wichita State (WSU).
Players from Wichita State, coached by former Baylor assistant Kevin Kowalik, and UT-Arlington each posted two victories over Baylor players. Baylor senior Mike Garcia, who calls San Antonio home, was the lone Bear to win against Wichita State when he defeated Carlo Contente in three sets. Freshman Jason Gould (New Braunfels) defeated UTA's Alon Goldshuv in straight sets for Baylor's lone win against the Mavericks. In doubles, redshirt freshman Barry McLaren teamed with assistant coach Sten van Beurden to win over Falk and Poutchinets (UALR). Gould and Garcia defeated UALR's Bund and Edney as well.
In singles matches for the tournament, Garcia and Gould are 3-1 while McLaren is 2-2.
