HOUSTON, Texas - Baylor men's tennis player Zoltan Papp won twice on Saturday to advance him to the finals of the Rice Invitational, being played in Houston at the Met Business and Sports Club.
After winning twice on Friday, Papp continued his winning ways on Saturday. In the quarterfinals, Papp defeated No. 75 Peter Malacek of Portland with a score of 6-3, 6-0. In the semifinals, Papp knocked off Rice's Matthias Mathaes in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. Papp now moves on to the final round and will face No. 26 Travis Parrott of Portland. The match is set for Sunday at 9 a.m.
In doubles play, the No. 58 team of Nathan McGregor and Papp topped Texas' Roger Gubser and Jean Simon with a score of 8-6. The Baylor pair withdrew from the tournament after advancing to the semifinals.
