WACO, Texas - After dropping the first game of a doubleheader against Dallas Baptist 9-2, the Baylor baseball team rebounded to clobber the Patriots 13-2 in the nightcap Saturday at Baylor Ballpark.

Baylor (27-10) was sluggish in the early game, getting just two runs on nine hits. Freshman David Murphy was the only offensive spark, belting a home run to right in the fifth inning and smacking an RBI single in the seventh to plate Paul Richmond.

Bears starter Josh Scott (4-3) gave up four runs on seven hits in two-plus innings of work for the loss. Dallas Baptist (23-10) starter Ethan Barton (5-1) worked seven innings, scattering two runs on seven hits for the win.

The second game was a different story as the Bears exploded for 13 runs on 11 hits and got stellar pitching from starter Justin Taylor (5-1).

Baylor jumped on the board in the first when Tim Hartshorn led off with a double down the left line. Trevor Mote then ripped an RBI double to left field to score Hartshorn and give the Bears an early 1-0 lead.

After scoring a run in the second, the Bears put up two more in the third, including a two-run homer to left by Chris Durbin. In the fourth, Baylor scored five runs, keyed by a bases-loaded double by Kelly Shoppach.

Although Dallas Baptist managed to score a run in the fourth and one in the fifth, Baylor pounded out a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings before the game was called due to the NCAA 10-run rule.

Taylor went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits for his fourth straight win. Patriots starter Cory Morris (4-4) gave up nine runs on seven hits in four innings for the loss.

Of note, Bears catcher Shoppach hit safely in both games, extending his hitting streak to 28 games. The mark is just three games shy of both the Baylor and Big 12 record of 31 set by James Blair over the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

Baylor returns to action Tuesday when it plays host to No. 1 Rice. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark.
