STILLWATER, Okla. - For the first time in two weeks, the Baylor baseball team won a Big 12 game on the road. The 14th-ranked Bears slipped past Oklahoma State 6-5 Friday night at Reynolds Stadium.
Baylor (32-16, 15-7 Big 12) struck first when designated hitter Ron Zboril belted a solo home run over the right field fence in the first inning. The next batter, Mike Huggins, doubled to left and came across when David Murphy ripped a double to left center.
In the second, the Bears put up two more runs when Chris Durbin reached on an error and Matt Williams slugged a two-run homer to left center.
Bears starter Steven White (10-1) had a no-hitter going through four innings, but gave up two hits and a run in the fifth to break up the no-no.
In the seventh, White loaded the bases with no outs. OSU's Ali Modami drilled a home run to right field for the grand slam, giving the Cowboys a 5-4 lead. It was just the second home run White has allowed this season.
Baylor reclaimed the lead with two runs in the eighth. Williams led off with a double to left center and Huggins singled to put runners in scoring position. An RBI single to right plated Williams to tie the game at 5-5. Murphy and Huggins both advanced on a wild pitch, and a second wild pitch scored Huggins.
White worked eight and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on five hits while striking out seven. Paul Thorp came in for the last out to earn his third save of the season.
Baylor and Oklahoma State will meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium.
