ARLINGTON, Texas - Chris Durbin hit his third home run in as many days and the 14th-ranked Baylor baseball team split a doubleheader with Texas-Arlington Tuesday at Allan Saxe Field. The Mavericks took the first game, 7-6, while the Bears rebounded in the nightcap, 11-5.

With the split, the Bears' record now stands at 31-16, while the Mavericks are 27-17.

In the opener, the Bears jumped on the board early, scoring two runs in the first. The Mavericks took the lead with a run in the third and two runs in the fourth. In the fifth inning, Trevor Mote led off with a double to right field and Mark Saccomanno reached on a walk to put runners in scoring position. Tim Hartshorn ripped a single to left to plate Mote and Saccomanno came in on a ground out by Kelly Shoppach to give Baylor a 4-3 lead.

Both teams added a run in the sixth, and Baylor scored in the eighth to keep a narrow, 6-4 lead. UTA rallied with three runs off Bears reliever Zane Carlson (1-3) in the bottom of the eighth for the win.

Carlson allowed three runs on six hits in two-plus innings for the loss. Baylor starter Josh Scott worked five and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out four. UTA reliever Michael Snapp (4-3) allowed two runs on three hits in four innings of work for the win.

In game two, Baylor pounded out five runs in the first inning to move ahead of the Mavericks, 5-0. Hartshorn led off with a walk and Mote smacked a single to center field to set up a three-run bomb by Durbin. Shoppach then reached on an error and Ron Zboril singled to right to again put runners on base with no outs. A double by Richmond scored Shoppach and Zboril came in on Matt Williams' sacrifice fly.

Baylor starter Jared Theodorakos (6-3) had a perfect game going through three innings and a no-hitter going through four before giving up three runs in the fifth to shrink the Bears' lead to 5-3.

In the sixth, UTA reliever Chris Minnisale loaded the bases with one out and Baylor took advantage, scoring a pair of runs on an error by the second baseman and one run on an error by the third baseman. Minnisale again stacked the bases with two outs and walked in a run to put Baylor up 9-3.

The Bears picked up a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, and reliever Kyle Edens came in to close the door on the Mavericks.

Baylor heads to Stillwater, Okla., Friday for a three-game Big 12 conference series with Oklahoma State. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
