Box Score WACO, Texas - For the second straight day, the 15th-ranked Baylor baseball team came from behind and run-ruled Texas. The Bears again smacked out 17 hits and beat the Longhorns, this time by a score of 16-6.
The Bears (30-15, 14-7 Big 12) used the long ball again, getting three homers, including two from sophomore Chris Durbin and a first-inning bomb from Kelly Shoppach. Durbin, for the day, had four hits, six RBI and scored three times.
Paul Thorp (3-0) picked up the win after he relieved starter Derek Brehm, who started off well, but was replaced after a shaky third inning when he gave up four runs.
Baylor went on a tear starting in the third inning, with Durbin's homer cutting the Texas (30-18) lead to one run. The Bears grabbed the lead with a five-run fourth in which they batted through the lineup. That inning saw two Longhorn errors open up the floodgates. The first four batters in Baylor's lineup all reached safely. They had a combined 10 hits to lead the Bear attack.
Longhorn starter Justin Simmons (6-2) was relieved in the fourth, but the damage had already been done.
Durbin's eighth-inning single to right center plated Mark Saccomanno, thus ending game via the NCAA 10-run rule.
For the Bears, it was the sixth straight time that they have won the season series with the Longhorns. The win leaves the team just two games behind front-runner Nebraska.
Baylor will next play the Mavericks of UT-Arlington in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
