WACO, Texas - The Baylor baseball team collected nine hits and Matt Williams belted a home run, but it was not enough as the Bears lost to Oklahoma 3-2 Saturday night at Baylor Ballpark.

With the loss, Baylor falls to 17-7 overall, 5-3 in Big 12 play. The Sooners improve to 9-15 on season and pull even with Baylor in league play at 5-3.

After two scoreless innings, the Bears jumped on the board with a run in the third. Mark Saccomanno smacked a single to left field and Tim Hartshorn followed with a single to right center before a sacrifice fly by Trevor Mote plated Saccomanno and put Baylor up 1-0.

The Sooners responded with three runs in the fourth, sparked by Greg Dobbs' double down the left line.

Williams slugged his second home run of the season over the left field wall to bring the Bears within one run, but Oklahoma reliever Mark Roberts tossed 1.2 scoreless innings to secure the save.

Baylor starter Josh Scott (3-2) went the distance, scattering three runs on seven hits while striking out four batters for the loss. Oklahoma's Rocky Cherry (5-1) gave up two runs on nine hits in 7.1 innings for the win.

Bears catcher Kelly Shoppach was 2-for-3 and extended his hitting streak to 15 games.

Baylor and Oklahoma will return to action for game three of the series Sunday at 2 p.m.
