WACO, Texas, -- Tim Hartshorn went three-for-five with two RBI, but it was not enough as the Baylor baseball team lost to Texas A&M, 8-6 in Big 12 action Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

With the loss, the Bears slip to 11-4 overall, 2-1 in conference play, while the Aggies improve to 4-7 overall, 1-2 in Big 12 action.

Texas A&M got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning after a leadoff single by Eric Reed. After two scoreless innings, the Aggies stretched their lead to 6-0 in the fourth, sparked by a bases-loaded triple by shortstop Ryan Wardinsky.

In the fifth inning, Baylor countered with four runs, including a two-run triple by Hartshorn that put the score at 6-4 heading into the sixth.

After holding the Aggies scoreless in the top of the sixth, the Bears evened the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Ron Zboril led off and reached on an error. Steve Dorneman then belted a triple down the left field line to plate Zboril. Batting fourth, Mark Saccomanno singled up the middle to bring in Dorneman.

The Aggies managed to score a run in the seventh and one in the ninth and were able to hold the Bears scoreless behind excellent pitching from reliever Matt Farnum (1-1), who earned the win. Farnum pitched three and two-thirds shutout innings and struck out five batters.

Reliever Jared Theodorakos (2-1) took the loss for Baylor, giving up one run on four hits in two innings of work.

Baylor returns to action Tuesday with a non-conference game with Mary-Hardin Baylor. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark.
