Kovac in National Indoor Tennis Championships

WACO, Texas - Baylor's Katja Kovac travels to Farmers Branch, Texas at the Brookhaven Country Club for the Omni Hotels National Indoor Championships, tomorrow, Nov. 8 and the Baylor women's tennis team will join three other schools the University of Illinois' Midwest Blast in Champaign, Ill., Nov. 9-10. Competition in the Indoor Nationals will run from Nov. 8th through the 11th.

Kovac, a senior from Ljubjana, Slovenia, is an automatic qualifier due to her second place finish at the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament where she was defeated in the finals by the University of Houston's No. 28 ranked Sarah Borwell. Kovac enters the tournament ranked No. 44 nationally, with an 11-2 record, and two victories over ranked players in the fall.

Kovac will compete in a 32-player singles field against qualifiers from Omni Hotels Regional Championships, ITA National Small College Championships, winners of the ITA All-American Championships, and players selected by the ITA National Tournament Committee.

The No. 18-ranked Baylor team will travel to Champaign, Ill., to participate in the Midwest Blast hosted by the University of Illinois. Baylor is the highest ranked of the four schools participating. Also competing are No. 33 Ohio State, No. 29 Illinois and Georgia Tech.
