Waco, Texas - Doubles duo Reiner Neurohr and Markus Hornung claimed the program's first regional doubles title with a victory in the championship match of the 2001 Omni Hotels Region VI Championships at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.

This is the second tournament for Neurohr and Hornung to be paired and the union produced the team's second tournament title. They won the doubles title in the Baylor Intercollegiates earlier this fall.

Hornung and Neurohr, the tournament's No. 6 seed, defeated fourth seeded Andy Leber and David Corrie of UT-Arlington, 8-6, to claim victory. The match was on serve at 5-5 until the Bears broke Corrie's serve. From there, Hornung and Neurohr held serve to secure the win. In the semi-final match on Saturday to advance to the finals, Hornung, a freshman, and Neurohr, a sophomore, defeated the tournament's top seeded team of Jean Simon and Rodrigo Echagaray of Texas, 8-5,

"Markus and Reiner played really well. They communicated with each other and moved well, they did a good job," said Baylor head coach Matt Knoll.
