Waco, Texas - Baylor's men's tennis team advanced seven of their nine singles players to the round of 32 in the 2001 Omni Hotels Region VI Championships on Friday, Oct. 26, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth. In addition, two of the team's four doubles teams advanced to the round of 16.

Junior Zoltan Papp, sophomores Reiner Neurohr, Matias Marin and Cory Ross as well as freshmen Armando Carrascosa, Benni Becker and Markus Hornung all were singles winners today and advanced to the round of 32. Junior Mike Garcia was a first round loser as was Nathan McGregor, a sophomore.

In tomorrow's round of 32, (14) Hornung will play TCU's Jacob Martin (26) and (12)Becker will face Johan Brunstrom (18) of SMU. (8)Neurohr takes on Rice's Ramez Qamer, (25)Marin plays Jason Pieters (11) of Louisiana-Lafayette, (27) Papp will play (16)Oggie Kolev of Arkansas, (19)Carrascosa faces off against Texas A&M's Keith From, a No. 6 seed, and Ross plays Rice's Richard Barker, seeded No. 2.

In doubles, the teams of Hornung/Neurohr and Papp/McGregor each advanced to the round of 16. Hornung/Neurohr, seeded No. 6, will play TCU's Chris Brandi and Toni Gordon, seeded 10th while McGregor/Papp will take on the tournament's No. 2 seed Rice's Richard and William Barker. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
