Three of Baylor's head coaches spoke to the media at Tuesday's press luncheon. Below are excerpts from their comments.
Head Soccer Coach Nick Cowell:
On playing Texas last Friday:
"Friday night, we played poorly for the first 30 minutes, but we played well in the second half. We had a goal called off which would have tied the game, which would have been a fair result."
On the remaining Big 12 Conference schedule:
"We feel like we have probably played three of the best teams in the conference already in Texas, Texas A&M and Nebraska. The rest of the way is not easy, but we can win every game we're in the rest of the way."
On defeating No. 9 Texas A&M on Sunday:
"You could just see it in the players faces after the game, there was a sense of excitement and team comradery... After losing the Texas game, their confidence was really low. Now, it's really high."
Head Volleyball Coach Brian Hosfeld:
On this week's action:
"This week is pretty important for us. Colorado does not have a lot respect for us. We have beat them once in nine times we've faced them... We have similar teams, both are young and trying to get some consistency going."
"Texas A&M is still in the top 25. They're struggling like everybody else in conference, not really struggling, but there's a lot of parity in the conference this year and in all of collegiate volleyball."
Head Football Coach Kevin Steele:
On the last week's loss to Iowa State:
"Last week was a tale of two halves. We were not very good in the first half in a lot of ways... I'm proud the players came back out, fought and made a game of it."
On facing Texas Tech this weekend:
"On defense, they run the ball very well. It's not a real complex scheme, but they do enough to keep you busy."
"On offense, it's like they have 15 players out there sometimes. You stop one thing, and there are three guys elsewhere doing something else."
"One of the biggest things as far as playing unique offenses... is experience in your own system, and not trying something different for your team to try and stop it. That doesn't work very well. Experience is what works well in that. If you just draw up the defense of the week on the board, especially with a young team, it's not gonna happen."
On QB Guy Tomcheck's performance:
"He's a tough guy. He's taken a lot of hits. He stands in there even when he sees a lot of blitzes... He knows where that guy is, but he stands in there and can make you pay... Like a Rolex, he takes a licking and keeps on ticking."
