WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the baseball, softball, volleyball, women's golf and track and field squads, announced their 2002 signing classes in November. Click on the links below for more information on each team's class.


Men's Basketball
Baylor University has signed big-man Tyrone Nelson of Hempstead (Texas) High School to a national letter of intent, head basketball coach Dave Bliss announced Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to have Tyrone join us in the coming year," Bliss said. "He continues our direction of bringing big athletic players to Baylor. We look forward to him contributing right away."

    Women's Basketball
    Baylor Lady Bear basketball head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson announced Wednesday the signing of Emily Niemann to a National Letter of Intent for the 2003-04 season.

    "Three things best describe Emily Niemann. She is a winner; she has great range on her shot, especially for a post player; and she is a workaholic," Mulkey-Robertson said. "Her ability to shoot the '3' and face the basket is an asset to her and to our program. We are excited to have her become a Lady Bear."

    Baseball
    Baylor baseball coach Steve Smith announced Wednesday the signing of eight players to National Letters of Intent for the 2004 season. The class is made up of seven high school players and one junior college player.

    "I am very pleased and excited about the quality of this group and the impact they will have on our program in the next several years," Smith said. "This class is very representative of the type of players we have been able to sign over the past several years. They are all quality students, with several of them qualifying for academic scholarship aid in addition to athletic aid."

    Softball
    Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced the signing of four high school athletes and one junior college transfer to National Letters of Intent here Wednesday, the first day of the 2002 fall signing period.

    Kylie Conroy, Lisa Ferguson, Chelsi Lake, Melissa Maler and Erin Sheek will join the Lady Bears next fall. Baylor enjoyed its best season in the program's 20-year history last spring, going 46-18 overall and 10-8 in the Big 12 Conference.

    Volleyball
    Baylor volleyball head coach Brian Hosfeld announced Wednesday the signing of two high school athletes and one junior college transfer to National Letters of Intent. Myshara High, Nicole LeBlanc and Kristen Schramek will join Baylor's program next fall. The Bears have earned NCAA Tournament bids two of the past three seasons.

    "These three student-athletes are a great start in putting the pieces together to create a high-level of competition and much-needed depth for the future of the program," Hosfeld said. "We're excited about who we've signed thus far, and we should have a few more to add in the late signing period."

    Women's Golf
    Head women's golf coach Sylvia Ferdon announced the signing of Anna Rehnholm of Karlskrona, Sweden to a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Bears beginning in the fall of 2003. Rehnholm is currently a member of the Swedish National Team.

    Rehnholm is currently ranked 14th out of 100 in the Bankboken Tour Rankings for 2002. She is also the 2002 representative for Sweden in the French Open Junior Championship. Rehnholm finished in the top 20 in the Belgium Junior Open Championship this year. After taking the individual medal at the 2001 Bankboken Tour Elite, Rehnholm also clutched the second and fourth place slots in the 2002 matchup.

    Track and Field
    Three outstanding athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Baylor Bears Track and Field team in 2003.

    "We are thrilled to have these three young ladies join our family," Hosfeld said. "We look forward to working with them and helping them develop as student-athletes and people. They should all play important roles as we continue to build this program."
