WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer opened Betty Lou Mays Field in style on Sunday night, holding off Texas A&M for a 2-1 win in front of 1,089 fans. The victory pushed the Bears to 2-0 on the year, marking Baylor's first 2-0 start to a season since 2018.
The result also extended Baylor's unbeaten streak against the Southeastern Conference to six matches dating back to 2024.
Baylor wasted little time getting on the board, breaking through in the seventh minute when Callie Conrad buried her second goal of the season and 13th of her career. Brynnlee Bohannon and Lauren Omholt picked up the assists, with Bohannon's helper marking her second career assist in game No. 2.
The Bears doubled their lead in the 31st minute as Grace White scored the first goal of her career, finishing off a feed from Aryanna Jimison and Theresa McCullough.
Texas A&M got on the board late in the first half, as Finley Lacher converted off an assist from Riley Crooks in the 44th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Baylor's defense held firm the rest of the way, turning aside the Aggies' final push in the second half to secure the win.
The Bears finished with a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Azul Alvarez made one save between the posts for Baylor, while Texas A&M's Makenna August finished with five saves.
Baylor is back at Betty Lou Mays Field next Sunday night to host Texas State. The match starts at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

On the packed house at Betty Lou Mays Field…
""It was awesome. We had a great turnout tonight, I really appreciate the fan support. We needed that. We knew they were going to travel well. Honestly, once the game starts, I barely look past the field ever, but a couple times I glanced up there, I saw a lot of green. It was a great college environment, a great opening weekend for our team. We hope the Baylor fans will continue to come out and support this team this season."
Freshman Grace White
On the first goal of her career…
"I was super happy after Arkansas, that was a big game, and I really wanted to help contribute. I think it was so surreal, finally being able to have my first goal."
Senior Bella James
On her 90-minute defensive bout…
"We came out together and really were working together as a team. 50/50 battles were so important in this game, and trying to step up and win every 50/50, every individual duel, was really important for us. It really worked together to compete, defend, win and fight, but also keep the ball and try and play our style of soccer, which we did well as a team."
