
No. 11 MT Earns No. 3 Seed, Faces Utah in Quarterfinals

BU to face six-seeded Utah on Thursday
ORLANDO, Fla. – Winners of nine of its last 10 matches, No. 11 Baylor men's tennis will open postseason play on Thursday as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seeded Utah in the Big 12 Conference Tournament quarterfinals at 9 a.m. CT at the USTA National Campus.
Baylor (21-8, 6-2 Big 12) saw its eight-game win streak snapped with a 4-1 loss versus No. 4 TCU on Sunday afternoon but rebounded with a regular-season finale win over UTRGV in the nightcap of a doubleheader. The 6-2 league record saw Baylor earn a No. 3 seed and will face off with Utah at 9 a.m. in the opener of the event, with the winner advancing to face second-seeded TCU on Friday at 1 p.m.
The Big 12 Championship will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m.
All matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
This will mark the second meeting of the year between Utah and Baylor, with the Bears posting a 4-1 win in Waco on April 2. TCU has won both meetings with the Bears, 4-1, including a result on Sunday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bears are led in singles by No. 7 ranked Devin Badenhorst, No. 35 Zsombor Velcz and No. 46 Connor Van Schalkwyk. Badenhorst sports an 11-6 singles record at the No. 1 line in the spring, while Van Schalwyk owns a 16-4 mark, with Velcz chipping in a 14-3 record, including 13-3 on line 2. Louis Bowden owns a 13-6 record in singles in the spring and Luc Koenig has a 12-9 record. The Bears are 83-38 in the spring as a team in singles.
In Doubles, Van Schalkwyk has a 16-7 record, with Badenhorst going 16-7. Blake Anderson is 12-4, Koenig is 12-9, Velcz is 11-11 and Alexandru Chirita is 10-10. Baylor is 44-25 as a team in the spring in doubles.
