Todorovich sets three PRs in first four events of heptathlon
DAY 1 RESULTS
AUSTIN, Texas – Halfway home, Baylor freshman Kingston Williams used first-place finishes in the long jump and 400 meters on Friday to score 3,976 points in the first five events of the decathlon and sits in third place at the 98th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Williams, competing in his first collegiate decathlon, is on pace to break Tommy Richards' 35-year-old school record (7,635) that was set at the 1991 Southwest Conference Outdoor Championships.
Only the multi-events were on stage on the opening day at Mike A. Myers Stadium, with sophomore Logan Todorovich setting personal bests in three of her four events and moving up to seventh in the heptathlon with 3,336 points.
Like Williams, Todorovich is at least on pace to potentially break the program record, needing to average about 750 in the remaining three events to eclipse Jenna Pfeiffer's record of 5,584 that was set at the Big 12 Championships in 2017.
The elder of the two Todorovich sisters, Lilly had PR performances in the 100-mter hurdles (14.0), high jump (5-5 ¾) and 200 meters (24.30) while picking up just 596 points in the shot put with a toss of 36-1 ½. Freshman Madilyn Todorovich and sophomore Kiara Wesseh are 10th and 15th, respectively, with 3,196 and 2,987 points through the first four events.
With the first half of the decathlon better suited for him, Williams racked up big points in the 100 meters (10.66), long jump (24-3 ¾) and 400 meters (48.11). He added 818 points in the high jump, tying his PR of 6-2 ¾, but scored only 507 points with a shot put toss of 34-0.
The multi-events will wrap up on Thursday, with Williams competing in the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters. In the heptathlon, Logan Todorovich has more favorable events on the second day with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
Other events scheduled for Thursday's Day 2 include the men's and women's pole vault, 400-meter hurdles, 800 meters and a distance-heavy evening running session with the 1,500, 3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
Live results are available at Texas Relays, with SEC+ providing streaming coverage on Friday and Saturday.
