Jumping Seat senior named Flat Rider of the Year while trio of Bears pick up All-Big 12 recognition
STILLWATER, Okla. – Three Baylor student-athletes have received All-Big 12 honors, as announced Thursday by the conference office ahead of this week's Big 12 Championship.
Senior Lauren Reid was named the Big 12 Flat Rider of the Year and picked up All-Big 12 recognition on both the Fences and Flat teams. Freshman Morgan McCarthy joined Reid on the All-Big 12 Flat team, while senior Lauren Jorgensen was also named to the All-Big 12 Fences team.
This marks the sixth time a Baylor student-athlete has earned the Big 12 Flat Rider of the Year honor, with the most recent being Dominika Silvestri in 2023. Reid was selected to the All-Big 12 Flat team for the third season in a row and was selected for the All-Big Fences team for the first time in her career. Reid is the BU's first Jumping Seat rider since Caroline Fuller in 2021 to be named to both the All-Big 12 Fences and Flat teams.
This is the second consecutive year that Jorgensen has earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Fences team, while McCarthy becomes the first Bear since 2018 to be named to the All-Big 12 Flat team.
Reid ended the regular season with a Maxwell Era-record season score average of 83.68 in Flat (min. 10 meets). She collected four MOPs and had a 5-1 record in Big 12 meets in the event, while going 8-3 overall. Reid also finished the regular season with a Maxwell Era-record season score average of 85.09 in Fences (min. 10 meets) and garnered three MOP nods with a 7-4 overall record and 3-3 record in Big 12 meets.
Jorgensen's .727 win percentage and undefeated 6-0 conference record on the season earned her a spot on the All-Big 12 Fences team, as she went 7-2-2 overall in the regular season. She earned three MOPs this season and holds the second-highest program total for season score average in Fences in a minimum of 10 meets during the Maxwell Era, with an average score of 84.36.
McCarthy earned her spot on the All-Big 12 Flat team after a historic freshman season in the green and gold. Her seven wins in Flat were the most wins by a freshman during the Maxwell. McCarthy also owns the highest score average for a freshman in the event during the Maxwell Era (min. 10 meets) with an 80.36.
No. 4-seed BU will face the No. 1-seed Oklahoma State Cowgirls in the semifinals on Friday, March 27, at 10 a.m. at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center in Stillwater, Okla.
