Scott one of 30 finalists for the women’s player of the year award
ATLANTA – Baylor women's basketball redshirt sophomore Taliah Scott has been named to the 2026 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Late-Season Team as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday morning.
The Orange Park, Fla., native is averaging 20.6 points per game through her redshirt sophomore season, putting up 30 points against Alabama State and a season-high 32 against then-No. 19 Iowa. Scott's first career double-double came in a 23-point 10-assist showing against Southeastern Louisiana.
Scott scored her 1,000th career point last week against TCU to become the 22nd player since 2000 to reach 1,000 career points in 48 games or fewer, tying the 19th fewest games needed in that span.
Making an instant impact with the Bears this season, Scott began the year by scoring 20 or more points in seven consecutive games, the longest season-opening streak in the country this year. She also became just the third player since 2000 to score 20 or more points in at least her first seven games on a new roster, joining Buffalo's Dyaisha Fair (seven in 2019-20) and Idaho's Emily Faurholt (10 in 2003-04). A few games later, Scott's 232 points through 10 games were the third most by a Bear this century behind Odyssey Sims and Nina Davis.
Scott was also named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Midseason Top 10 list, where at the time of announcement she ranked No. 2 in scoring on the list among the nation's best shooting guards.
Scott is one of three Big 12 representatives on the Player of the Year Late-Season Team and is one of 11 underclassmen among the 30-player watch list.
No. 15 Baylor WBB is in the midst of a busy stretch, readying for Game No. 3 of 5 in a 12-day span as it faces No. 20 Texas Tech in Lubbock on Wednesday evening. Through 14 games of conference play, the Bears are tied at the top of the league with TCU, half a game in front of West Virginia and one game ahead of Texas Tech.
The Bears return home to Foster Pavilion on Saturday to host Arizona for senior night with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Two days later, the Kansas State Wildcats come to Waco to close the home regular season from the Banks of the Brazos River.
Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.
