Despite a strong effort, Baylor drops their first match of the season to go to 2-1.
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis fought hard and made an incredible push to come back from a 3-1 deficit, but SMU was able to persevere in dramatic fashion, winning 4-3.
Baylor (2-1) drops their first match of the season after 14 days of no match action to an SMU (4-1) squad playing its second match in two days.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting in doubles, Kennedy Gibbs and Alian Zack were able to take Court Two quickly, winning 6-1. SMU would go on the win Courts One and Three to ultimately take the point.
In singles, Zuzanna Kubacha was the first to finish, collecting a 6-3, 6-1 win on Court Two, tying the match at 1-1. SMU would respond by winning Courts Six and Four to take a commanding 3-1 lead.
Kennedy Gibbs shifted the momentum back to Baylor by taking Court Three, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, followed by Mu-Jie Tzeng winning Court Five on a tiebreaker 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 (5), evening the match score at three-all.
Na Dong gave it everything on Court One, but ultimately came up just short, losing on a tiebreaker, 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-7 (4).

The Bears return to the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on Friday, February 6 to take on Rice at 12 p.m. CT.
