Bears looking to extend their sweep streak heading into the weekend
By: Rylee White
WACO, Texas - No. 24 Baylor volleyball carries the momentum of a three-match win streak as they welcome Houston on Friday at 7 p.m. CT, and No. 17 Kansas on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.Â
Â
Baylor (12-5, 4-3 Big 12) returned to the AVCA poll this week after sweeping No. 10 TCU in Fort Worth, their first road win over a top-10 opponent since sweeping No. 7 Florida in Gainesville on Sept. 11, 2021. The victory was also Baylor's fourth straight over the Horned Frogs and continued their nine-set win streak.
Â
Freshman Mya looks to keep the good times rolling in front of the home fans.
Â
"I think we're working really well together," she said. "We all have our own components that we're each working on every day when you put those together, it has amazing results. We are also working on getting that 1% better every day and doing it together which has been awesome to see."
Â
Houston (11-7, 4-3 Big 12) holds a 30-12 lead in the all-time series, but the recent history belongs to Baylor. After Houston won 30 of the first 31 meetings, the Bears have won 11 straight, most recently a 3-1 victory in Houston last Nov. 15.Â
Â
Sunday's matchup is between the two winningest Big 12 programs over the last eight seasons. Kansas (12-5, 5-2 Big 12) has won the last three meetings, including a 3-2 decision in Waco on Oct. 3, 2025, and holds a 31-29 edge in the all-time series. Baylor leads 19-9 in matches played in Waco. The Jayhawks are led by Taylor Stanley, whose 5.67 points per set lead the Big 12.
Â
Ksenia Rakhmanchik trails closely in the number two spot at 5.31 points per set. The sophomore continues to lead the BU offense, being named to the Big 12's Starting Seven for the second straight week and the third time this season after tallying 23 kills at TCU. She has posted double-digit kills in 26 straight matches, dating back to last season, and has led Baylor in kills, attacks and points in 16 of 17 matches.Â
Â
Isabela Haggard was named Big 12 Setter of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season. She ranks third in the conference at 9.90 assists per set, has four double-doubles this year and needs nine digs to reach 400 for her career.Â
Â
Going into the weekend, head coach Ryan McGuyre is one win away from 250 victories at Baylor. McGuyre became the program's winningest coach in his ninth season at
Baylor and is looking to mark another milestone.
