Jimison nets night’s lone goal in the 26th minute

WACO, Texas – No. 13 Baylor soccer topped TCU 1-0 on Friday night in front of a record 1,509 fans for the Bears' annual Blackout on the Brazos game at Betty Lou Mays Field.

The win moved BU to 12-2-1 and extended its home winning streak to seven matches. BU is tied for first in the Big 12 with Kansas, Texas Tech and BYU at 16 points apiece. TCU fell to 5-7-1 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

The Friday-night crowd broke the record of 1,373 set in 2018, when BU also beat the Horned Frogs 1-0.

The lone goal came in the 26^th minute when Aryanna Jimison scored on her own rebounded penalty kick after TCU goalkeeper Olivia Geller saved the initial attempt. A video-reviewed handball set up the penalty and gave BU a lead it never relinquished. It was Jimison's seventh goal of the season.

BU held a 14-12 edge in shots, with seven in each half, though TCU had a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Jimison led all players with five shots, two of them on goal, and Brynnlee Bohannon added three.

TCU pushed late, putting up seven second-half shots to five in the first half. Azul Alvarez made a season-high seven saves for the shutout, four of them in the second half, while Geller made four.

TCU led in corner kicks 8-4 and was called for 11 fouls to BU's seven. Each team received one yellow card.

BU begins its final regular-season road swing at Arizona State at 8 p.m. CT Thursday, Oct. 22, then plays Arizona at 1 p.m. the following Sunday.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Michelle Lenard
On the match…
"[TCU was] pressing, they came with a lot of energy and it did take us a minute to figure things out and settle down, but we did. After 20 minutes into the first half, we started to find some possessions, circulate the ball, find the holes that were there. And I thought, after that, we did a really good job … and then the crowd, great crowd tonight."

On the record-breaking crowd…
"It was a great turnout. Everybody in black looked great up there. Big energy, really made a difference for the team. Got to witness some exciting moments. Really happy for the Waco community and the Baylor students to come out and support our team. Really meant a lot to us tonight."

Senior forward Aryanna Jimison
On the record-breaking crowd…
"It was honestly such a blessing to have everybody come out and support us tonight. It was great. We prayed that the crowd would be here, we prayed for their safety and for them to cheer us on tonight, and we were so glad that they came out."

On her connection with senior forward Theresa McCullough…
"Man, that's my twin, for real. We know each other like the back of our hands. I know when she's going to run, she knows when I'm going to run. She knows when to slip, when not to slip it, we just know each other so well, and it's super fun playing with her. I wouldn't want to play with anybody else, seriously."
