Bears put final preparations before Big 12 Indoor Championships
LUBBOCK, Texas – Baylor track & field prepares to make its final touches of the 2025 indoor regular season this weekend at the Jarvis Scott Open at the Sports Performance Center from Feb. 14-15.
In the week three rankings released by the USTFCCCA Tuesday morning, both the men and women were placed inside the top-25 together for the first time this season. The women rose four spots to No. 15 while the men jumped nine spots at No. 24 to enter the top ranks.
The men's rise in the ranks was contributed by last weekend's performances at the Charlie Thomas Invite by Demario Prince and the 4x400 relay squad of Demar Francis, Nathaniel Ezekiel, Abbas Ali and Dillon Bedell. After matching the program record three times already, Prince broke the barrier to etch his name once more into the record books with a 7.57 time. The sophomore's time is the fifth best mark in the NCAA this season and credits as a program, meet and facility record.
The men's 4x400 relay team grabbed a season-best time of 3:05.15 to put them 10th in the NCAA.
On the women's side, the 4x400 relay squad of Samenna Mathew, Tiriah Kelley, Calisha Taylor and Aaryona Kinchen improved their season-best time by nearly 20 seconds at 3:35.55 to put them third in the Big 12 and 21st in the NCAA. The relay team looks to continue the upwards trend to make the final push to the top-16 marks to advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
Pole vaulter Molly Haywood had a historic weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invite. Haywood soared to new heights to become the first Baylor woman to reach the 15-feet mark in indoor program history. Haywood, setting a new program, meet and facility record with a 15-0.25 mark, broke her personal record three times before taking home the title. The sophomore's mark ranks tied for fourth in the NCAA for the 2025 season and leads in the Big 12.
The Jarvis Scott Open will begin with field events on Friday with the women's pole vault section B at 2 p.m. CT while the running events will start at 5 p.m. CT beginning with the women's 60-meter prelims.
